THAM & VIDEGÅRD – ON: ARCHITECTURE
The KTH School of Architecture in Stockholm, the Treehotel in Harads, and the Kalmar Konstmuseum are all well-known and renowned examples of modern architecture. One of Sweden’s most well-known and distinctive architectural studios, Tham & Videgård has created works that have come to signify a new direction in Swedish architecture for the twenty-first century.

Tham & Videgård are renowned, award-winning architects that specialise in designing distinctive structures of various sizes. The book features a wide range of work from the studio’s more than 20 years of operation. These include the Denfert art centre in Paris, the 150-meter-tall +One Tower and main entrance for the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre in Gothenburg, the Nya konst faculty of arts building for the University of Gothenburg, and a stunning office building at Sveaplan – a new cornerstone on the northern approach to Stockholm. These structures are influencing how cities will look in the future.
Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård founded their studio in 1999 out of a desire to engage with the architecture they believed was lacking in Sweden. Their goal was to experiment with fresh concepts and methods and implement them in physical projects. The title of the book, On: Architecture, was inspired by Tham & Videgård’s desire for the exhibition to spark a discussion on parts of architecture that, in their opinion, remain hidden from view. The book draws from a discourse about architecture that frequently sidesteps important questions and uses elements of Tham & Videgård’s work to illuminate other essential characteristics of architecture.
